Tasting notes
The 2022 Chassagne-Montrachet La Maltroye 1er Cru initially feels a little monochromatic compared to its peers. Strict but a bit too uncompromising, though I warm to that with acquaintance. The palate is well balanced with fine acidity and a patina of oak to be subsumed, though I found this reassuringly complex and quite nuanced on the finish. Give this backward Chassagne another 18 to 24 months in bottle. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

The 2022 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru La Maltroie is another one of the standouts in the range, offering up aromas of citrus zest, mint, crisp green apple, white flowers and freshly baked bread, followed by a medium to full-bodied, satiny and fleshy palate that's suave, seamless and penetrating.
Cask sample. Mid lemon. Apple and peach on the nose. Rich without being overpowering. Poised. Solid. (MH)
