The 1979 Musigny Grand Cru, which blew me away when I first encountered it in 2008, is blessed with a stunning bouquet that displays exquisite definition, offering ebullient red fruit laced with tomato vine and undergrowth. Such clarity! With aeration, it evolves tantalizing seaweed/Japanese nori aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with a fine line of acidity, and lithe in the mouth; notes of orange peel and curry leaf infuse the red fruit. This has great depth and structure - more like a 1978 in some ways. So vigorous, and I adore the tang of mint that pops up on the aftertaste after 10 minutes in the glass. Tasted at the Drouhin Musigny vertical in London.
