Tasting notes
A reflective brick red color, the 2020 Barbaresco Rio Sordo Riserva has a more fruity and floral nose in this vintage, with notes of preserved strawberries, sweet sage, candied roses, preserved orange, and leather. The palate has an elegant yet noble, ripe structure, with a medium-bodied frame and a velvety richness of texture as well as a zesty lift of fresh acidity and salty earth, its deeper undertones floating through with good length on the finish. Drink over the next 10-12 years.

The 2020 Barbaresco Rio Sordo opens nicely in the glass, showing hints of kirsch, cinnamon, orange zest, cedar and sweet pipe tobacco. Pliant and expressive, with fine balance, the Rio Sordo is another strong wine in this range from Ca' Rome'.
A sweet, bold blackberry and black cherry nose, with some cream, spice and dust. Intense, verging on jammy but not, and with lovely balsamic freshness allied to a stony mid-palate. Really clean and pure fruit, vertical style, with earthy and spicy depth on the finish. Class
Barbaresco. Lustrous ruby with orange tinges. Lift and concentration on the nose. Ripe red fruit with a peppery tingle and a hint of oak. Supple, concentrated and with firm, slightly drying tannins – this has great fruit length and a real future. Ends a tad warm. (WS)
