From a parcel planted in 1956, the 2022 Chambertin Grand Cru exhibits notes of cherries, berries, licorice and spices framed by toasty new oak. Medium to full-bodied, rich and textural, with an ample core of fruit, supple tannins and a perfumed finish, it's a strong effort for this improving estate.

The 2022 Chambertin Grand Cru comes from 0.46 hectares planted in 1954 on the border with Clos-de-Bèze, neighboring Pierre Damoy. It has more complexity than the Clos-de-Bèze, but I am still seeking a sense of nobility that derives from this Grand Cru. It's a bit ephemeral compared to its peers. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, well-judged acidity, and black cherries mixed with dark chocolate. I am prudent with my score because I can feel some heat on the finish and just a bit of VA.
About the producer
Based in Gevrey-Chambertin, this domaine has a long history and impressive vineyards (with over five hectares of Grand Cru), but has long been considered an under-performer. Today, however, the Bouygues brothers (of Montrose and Clos Rougeard) have taken ownership and change is afoot.
