Score 90-92/100 · Drink 2030-2045, Neal Martin, Vinous, May 2026

The 2025 Pichan Comtesse Réserve comes in at 13% alcohol this year, with no Cabernet Franc, which is all in the Grand Vin this year, something that Nicolas Glumineau said was a surprise given the growing season. There is a palpable estuarine influence on the nose, blackberry and bilberry fruit, touches of violet in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, a fine bead of acidity, very harmonious, with a tingle of cracked black pepper on the finish. Again, a very classically styled "cool" Pauillac.

A blend of 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 46% Merlot, and 2% Petit Verdot, the 2025 Pichon Comtesse Reserve is a complex, nuanced second wine with cassis, green tobacco, lead pencil, and damp earth all defining the aromatics. Medium-bodied on the palate, it has ripe, polished tannins and good complexity.

Licorice, flowers, smoke, blackberries, and a touch of herbs are already quite expressive in the nose. The palate is creamy, silky, bright, sweet, and fresh. Refined in its delivery, the wine finishes with sweet red fruits, peppery herbs, a touch of chocolate that rounds everything out, leaving you with its fruit, and freshness. The style, and quality here continues getting better and better yearly. This is now a true Pauillac brand, instead of a second wine. The wine blends 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 46% Merlot, and 2% Petit Verdot. 13% ABV. 3.7 pH.

The 2025 Reserve de la Comtesse is all class, all finesse. Open-knit floral overtones and silky, polished tannins announce a Réserve that is more about restraint than power. Rose petal, dark red cherry, plum, mocha, new leather and licorice build with time in the glass. There's plenty of textural depth in this captivating Reserve.
