The 2025 Haut-Bergey is better than recent vintages that I have tasted, which were marred by some vegetal elements. This seems cleaner and more defined, with mulberry and wild strawberry fruit. That said, it is not the most complex on the block. The palate is where the problems start, because yet again there is an unmistakable herbaceous note that knocks this off course. Frustrating.

A Merlot-dominant blend of 60% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 15% Cabernet Franc that's being raised in foudres, 400-liter barrels, and stainless steel tanks, the 2025 Château Haut-Bergey offers up solid aromatics of black cherries, leafy herbs, and earthy, sappy, floral nuances. Medium-bodied on the palate, it has a nicely balanced, firm mouthfeel and a good finish. Checking in at 13.5% alcohol with a pH of 3.6, this barrel sample is a touch hard to read, yet it has solid fruit, and I suspect it will come together once bottled.
Medium bodied with elegant dark fruit, precise tannins and an overall pleasant, delicate balance.
