Tasting notes
The 2025 Certan de May was picked between September 8 and 18 and matured in 80% new oak. It has a straightforward nose with brambly red berry fruit, a little earthy in style and, as usual, it leaves me wanting more. The palate is framed by light, gritty tannins, dark berry fruit, decent depth but a bit austere on the finish. This Pomerol just never seems to show well at this stage.

A blend of 65% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon harvested between September 8th and 18th and resting in 80% new oak, the 2025 Château Certan De May has a very pretty, singular nose of red, blue, and black fruits intermixed with sappy flowers and spice. It's more medium-bodied on the palate, with good overall balance, ripe tannins, and outstanding length. If it gains a touch of volume and generosity over the course of its élevage, it should easily check in at the top end of this barrel rating or above.
Wow. This is really complex, with berries, olives, cedar and tobacco on the nose. Medium-bodied with a deep center palate and so much going on. The real deal in this vintage. Traditional Pomerol with clarity of character.
The 2025 Certan de May is quite the powerhouse. Rich and explosive in the glass, this is certainly not a shy wine. A blast of dark red/plum fruit, mocha, new leather, incense and gravel hits the palate first. The 2025 shows off all the intensity and natural plushness of this solar vintage. It will be interesting to see if it gains a bit more finesse with élevage.
