The 2022 The Lovers wafts up with a savory, nearly smoky mix of crushed ashen stones, dried roses, white pepper and black raspberries. Surprisingly juicy and fresh, it sweeps across the palate with a silken feel yet remains lively and spry, as ripe wild berries and hints of citrus soothe the senses. Blue fruits resonate through the long, gently tannic finish as nuances of licorice and rosemary fade slowly. The Lovers is already showing beautifully with a short decant.

The exceptional 2022 The Lovers blend is 89% Cabernet Sauvignon and 11% Syrah, aged 21 months in 30% new French oak. It marries the juiciness and freshness of Syrah with the finesse of Cabernet, chewy in tannins and offering plenty of length and breadth across the palate, a soft, round expression of cassis, plum, and age-worthy structure that has elegance beyond all measure. Still, it is well-integrated enough to be pleasurable now and into the next 15-20 years.
