Tasting notes
Offering a forward and lifted reductive spice on the nose, the 2023 Chardonnay Four Winds Vineyard Helen is a bright straw color, leading with bright notes of matchstick, lime zest, chalky earth, and green apples. Medium-bodied, it’s zesty and has a pithy texture, a bit of white pepper lift, and a pithy, powdery finish. Drink over the next couple of years.

Full bottle 1,346 g. Fruit sourced from Four Winds vineyard. Pale lemon. Freshly washed linen and honeysuckle nose – light and fine with a whiff of vanilla from oak. I quite like the taut acidity and leaner mid palate than the Phoebe – it needs a bit more time but in a few years this will be glorious. Possibly the best vintage of Crowley Chardonnay I’ve had the pleasure of reviewing. (SCJ)
The 2023 Chardonnay Helen is remarkably pretty, mixing chamomile with white peaches, lemon sorbet and a hint of spice. Pure and crisp, it displays citrus-tinged orchard fruits with a slight herbal inflection that adds contrast. The finish is clean, mineral intense yet fresh.
