Score 17.5/20 · Drink 1999-2013, Jancis Robinson MW, Aug 2009
Dark ruby. Pale rim. Rose petals again – as on the 1979 – but richer and more concentrated. Hint of treacle toffee. Very together and still vigorous and hugely impressive. At about the same stage of evolution as a good 1991 Côte de Nuits. Just perhaps very slightly sickly and hot on the finish, But that is picking holes. Very big crop apparently. (JR)

Ponzi's 1991 Pinot Noir Reserve may be even richer and more complete than the 1990 Reserve. It is certainly more flattering, open knit and opulent. A saturated dark ruby color, fragrent spicy black fruit-scented nose, lusty, voluptuous flavors, medium to full-body and a silky finish are undeniably captivating. Drink it over the next 5-8 years.
