50% new oak. A blend of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.  Deep purple. Blackberry-jam nose with freshness to complement the plushness. Looser tannin structure but the tannins are still generous in level and fine-grained in texture with fresh acidity. Feels rich. (SCJ)

A Cabernet Franc blend that's been made since 2003, the 2022 Cerra Sur offers a great nose of red, blue and black fruit as well subtle notes of dark chocolate, spring flowers, and leafy herbs. Full bodied, ripe, opulent, and nicely concentrated, it's an undeniable success in the vintage and should have 10 to 15 years, if not more, of prime drinking.

Favia's 2022 Cerro Sur Red Wine—a blend of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and a bit of Merlot—is full-bodied, lush and ripe but not over the top, retaining its fresh, floral aromas, joined by tobacco and black cherries on the nose. Bottled in the first half of June 2024 and not scheduled to be released until September 2025, it should be singing by then, although the one quibble is that the lengthy finish shows a trace of alcoholic warmth.

Looking at the barrel samples, the 2022 Cerro Sur checks in as 77% Cabernet Franc and 23% Cabernet Franc that's from old vines in Coombsville that were planted in the 1970s and 1980s. It's a medium to full-bodied, round, impressively concentrated, and textured effort with terrific purity of fruit, ripe tannins, and a great finish. I don't see it matching the 2021, but it s an undeniably successful 2022 with plenty to love.
