The 2024 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru (Maison Louis Jadot) opens in the glass with aromas of sweet stone and orchard fruits mingled with toasted nuts and honey. Medium- to full-bodied, with a satiny attack and creditable mid-palate density, it's a solid effort.

The 2024 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru is more backward and closed than the Bienvenues yet this sings of Bâtard, a bit surly but you know it will loosen up in the end. The palate is fresh and crisp on the entry. There is just a touch of reduction but it feels tensile from start to finish. It is a little spicier on the finish with a tang of tangerine and stem ginger on the aftertaste. Excellent.
3 x 450l barrels made. A glowing pure fresh yellow colour, with dignity and energy. The oak adds a little pat of butter. Spending time with this because I think it has significant potential. There is considerable tensile strength on the palate, not the most powerful of Bâtards, but I think it has been very skilfully made.
Fermented mainly in new oak. Cask sample. The fruit is mainly covered by the spicy-sweet and mealy oak on the nose but there’s no lack of fruit. In fact, the fruit is layered: citrus, green fruits and almost peachy but that may be the oak sweetness and vanilla. Powerful and mouth-watering with impressive length. Both pure and textured, the oak eaten up by the quality of the fruit. (JH)

Louis Jadot is arguably the most consistent négociant house in Burgundy. It has managed to straddle both the entry-level and fine wine market, while retaining respect in both.
