Tasting notes
The 2023 Grenache Ora et Labora Bien Nacido Vineyard is beautiful, exuding the dark, inky color characteristic of Grenache throughout the Central Coast in this vintage, particularly the low-yielding Alban clones that supply this bottling. Black and blue fruits with purple flower overtones and an herbal edge introduce a soft, seductive palate imbued with a lightly tensile rudder. The finish balances a juicy succulence with a ghostly, understated tannin structure. Relative to the more taut, structural and intense Lumiere bottling from Larner Vineyard, this is ideally suited for near-term consumption and should evolve nicely through its 10th birthday.

The 2023 Grenache Bien Nacido Vineyard Ora et Labora shows the more muscular, savory side of Grenache, as wines from this site tend to do. Aged leather, turned earth, ink and stemmy herbal tones make the Ora et Labora feel particularly dark and grounded. Deep mineral undertones simmer through to the close as firm, forceful tannins slightly dry out the finish.
