Score 90/100 · Drink 2026-2029, Billy Norris, Vinous, Jan 2026

The 2023 Pinot Noir Gap's Crown Vineyard delivers all the cherry-fruited, spicy Gap’s Crown signatures in a rounded frame. The fruit ripeness is pushed a little further than some of the other wines at Blue Farm, possibly a function of naturally softer tannins and a more yielding build. This is definitely a crowd-pleaser.

22-year-old vines, oriented north–south. Goulding series soils – cobbly clay loam. Dijon clones 667 (on 3309 rootstock) and 777 (on 420A rootstock). 4 days’ cold soak, 5% saignée. Fermented for 17 days in tank. Barrel-aged for 17 months (45% new oak). Savoury start and then sweet and round. Rich and glamorous. Not subtle! Quite a bit of alcohol on the end. Hedonistic, but a bit short. (JR)
