The 2018 Corton Rognet Grand Cru has an exquisite bouquet with vivacious brambly red fruit, sous-bois and crushed stone - all wonderfully-defined. The palate is medium-bodied with lithe tannins, assiduously integrated oak, very harmonious with a vibrant, elegant finish that delivers Grand Cru pedigree. Ever so slightly Pinotage-like. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 red tasting.

The 2018 Corton-Rognet Grand Cru is quite airy and floral on the nose, a mixture of red and black fruit, crushed rock and touches of marmalade. The palate is medium-bodied with a fleshy opening, a dash of soy splashed into the red berry fruit with touches of girolles and black pepper towards the cohesive finish. Give this two or three years in bottle.
This too evidences just a hint of volatile acidity that also serves to add a bit of lift to the liqueur-like aromas of plum, cassis and port. The exceptionally rich, full-bodied and tautly muscular flavors brim with palate soaking dry extract that also buffers the exceptionally firm tannic spine shaping the powerful, serious and impressively long finish where the only nit is a hint of warmth. While not exactly a classically styled Corton, it does have the typical size, weight and punch of one.
