Tasting notes
The 2019 Proprietary Red Wine Engelhard Vineyard brings a richer, broader style in its currants, spring flowers, dark chocolate, and leafy tobacco aromas and flavors. This pretty, perfumed, incredibly elegant red blend is full-bodied, has ultra-fine tannins, and a great finish. Based on 61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Cabernet Franc, 12% Petit Verdot, and the rest Malbec, from a single vineyard in Calistoga, it s another sensation wine from winemaker Nigel Kinsman.

Coming from a single vineyard on Howell Mountain, the 2019 Red Blend Howell Mountain is a blend of 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Cabernet Franc, 4% Petit Verdot and 1% Malbec. Deep garnet-purple in color, it needs some coaxing to unlock crème de cassis, mocha and black olives scents with an undercurrent of juicy plums, blueberry compote, licorice and tar, plus a waft of tree bark. The palate is medium to full-bodied, elegant and refreshing with firm, grainy tannins and lots of savory nuances complementing the black fruits, finishing with great length. 330 cases were made.
