Score 87/100 · Drink 2018-2022, Neal Martin, Aug 2018

The 2016 Chablis Vau de Vey 1er Cru offers attractive yellow fruit, white peach and flinty scents on its well defined bouquet that gains intensity with aeration. The palate is smooth with candied orange peel and apricot, perhaps some obvious use of oak barrels here (half the cuvée spends 10 months in oak) that renders this attractive but perhaps at the cost of Chablis-like typicité . This is an enjoyable, almost New World styled Chablis, but to some it may feel rather obvious. Tasted blind at the BIVB Chablis tasting.
