The 2020 Barbaresco Montefico Vecchie Viti is one of the most reticent wines in this range. Then again, we are talking about Montefico. Strong savory and mineral notes take center stage. Mint, sweet pipe tobacco and sage open first, while fruit remains in the background. Driving yet fine-grained tannins shape the mid-palate and finish. This is such a striking wine. Classic Montefico all way. Chalk, dried herbs, dried flowers and a hint of earthiness build into the delineated, saline-drenched finish. Superb.
About the producer

Roagna is one of Italy’s finest estates, producing top, single-vineyard Nebbiolos in Barbaresco and Barolo. The estate’s Crichët Pajé Barbaresco is one of the rarest fine wine cuvées in Piedmont with fewer than 2,000 bottles produced each year.
