Brilliant ruby. Pungent, smoke-accented cherry, blackberry and floral pastille aromas are complemented by hints of licorice and cedary oak. Chewy and focused on the palate, offering concentrated dark berry and bitter cherry flavors that slowly flesh out and become sweeter with air. Closes spicy, focused and very long, with dusty tannins framing the juicy dark fruit. Raised in new and used French and American oak barrels.

The 2011 Reserva has aromas of dark chocolate, cigar ash and baking spices with a core of ripe black fruit; it's oaky with a commercial profile in a nice way. The palate shows abundant, fine-grained tannins that give it a powdery texture and a slightly bitter finish. 250,000 bottles.
Tempranillo sourced from different villages, mainly old vines planted in 1950 on calcareous-sandy soils. 4,000 kg/ha. Hand harvested, sorting table and aged for 19 months in French and American oak. Very oaky and minty nose, showing lots of sweet spices, damson, prunes and very ripe cherries. Firm fruit, with earthy and slightly austere tannins. Well-charged fruit on the mid palate. Very juicy and generous fruit expression. Impressive stylistic switch for such a classic winery. (FC)
