Arietta's 2023 H Block Hudson Vineyards is a blend of Cabernet Franc and Merlot. Potent and heady, the 2023 is going to need at least a few years to come into its own, although it is pretty stellar in the early going. Crushed autumn leaves, tobacco, incense, sweet red cherry fruit, mocha and espresso all make an appearance as this opens with a bit of coaxing. Muscular tannins make a strong case for a few years of cellaring.
Roughly two-thirds Cabernet Franc and one-third Merlot, Arietta's 2023 H Block Hudson Vineyards is perhaps both the winery's and vineyard's most unique wine. A chunk of the Merlot was picked first, with the rest picked at the same time as the Cabernet Franc and co-fermented. Leafy notes accent ripe cherries and raspberries in this medium- to full-bodied wine, which comes across as slightly open-knit and tannic but also rounded and ripe, with a lingering finish.
