Tasting notes
The intensely yellow-golden colored 2019 Riesling C.O. Steinlinden Liquid Earth is from a lieu-dit in Mölsheim that opens with a deep, intense and precise bouquet of ripe fruits, crushed limestone and lemon chutney. Dense, elegant and juicy on the palate, with a fine tannin and especially phenolic structure, this is a full-bodied, elegant and tight Riesling from Mölsheim's limestone soils. Very intense and charmingly juicy, this is an elegant, refined and finely grippy Riesling that shows a fine first maturity after five years. To be released in October 2024. 12.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in August 2024.

This is like staring into a deep chasm of dried stone fruit and candied citrus all dusted with chalk. Incredibly concentrated and deeply structured, this reminds me of Clos Ste. Hune, but with a cooler personality and a sleeker silhouette. Then comes the fabulously elegant, smoky and chalky finish that just doesn’t want to stop. And all this at just under 12.5% alcohol. Steinlinden is the name of the parcel where this grows. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.
The 2019 Riesling CO Steinlinden Liquid Earth is the first wine in the Liquid Earth series that can be named after its parcel, namely Steinlinden. The lifted nose radiates chalk and lemon oil. The palate plunges right into that chalkiness with texture, absolute focus, linearity and inherent coolness. Pristine lemon oil finesse defines exquisitely ripe, radiant fruit. Very streamlined and precise, this is statuesque in its bearing—taut, smooth and utterly mouthwatering. This has only begun to hit its stride and is just on the cusp of development, promising decades, not just years, of enjoyment. (Bone-dry)
