Score 96/100 · Drink 2014-2039, Robert Parker, Oct 2014
Three special cuvées include the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Hillside Reserve from Rutherford. Located in the foothills of the Mayacamas Mountains, this cuvée has been one of Flora Springs’ most profound Cabernet Sauvignons. Made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2012 is stunning. Classic notes of black cherry liqueur, crème de cassis, licorice, loamy soil and spice box are present in this full-bodied, opulent, concentrated, dense wine. The tannins are silky and well-integrated, the acidity provides focus, and the wine is full, rich and impressive. It can be drunk now and over the next 20-25 years. It is difficult to choose between the Rennie Reserve and Hillside Reserve, but both are top-flight, world-class Cabernet Sauvignons.
