The 2020 Kevin John Chardonnay is waxy and nutty on the nose, with white peach and beach sand, biscuit and almond meal. The wine is chewy and substantial in the mouth, with all manner of white characters present. It's supple, sleek and powerful, with an upward thrust of ginger, white pepper and lemongrass. Despite bunch numbers being about average in 2020, the bunches themselves were very small due to the dry conditions, which meant that yields were down and tannins were up. This is a consistent feature right across the state in 2020, which is an interesting phenomenon in a place covering so much land size and innumerable microclimates. 13.9% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.

This has richness and concentration, with a stony edge to the ripe peach, pear and pineapple fruit. Lemon peel and some flint, too. The purity is exceptional. So concentrated and highly defined with fleshy richness. Pastry and toasted grains, as well as fresh and lively acidity. Pure peach flesh and pear. Thereâs refinement, as well as raw power at play here. Crisp finish. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold. Screw cap.
