Score 93/100 · Drink 2025-2032, Jeb Dunnuck, Dec 2025

Coming from 25-year-old head-trained vines on volcanic soils (Goldbud Vineyard) and aged 17 months in neutral 600-liter demi-muids, the 2023 Caldera is based on 64% Mourvèdre, 30% Grenache, and 6% Counoise that was completely destemmed. Both red and black fruits, pepper, sandalwood, and white pepper nuances all define the bouquet. This carries to a medium-bodied, pure, graceful red that's balanced with soft tannins and outstanding fruit. I love its complexity today, and it should drink well for at least 7-8 years. Drink 2025-2032.

The 2023 Caldera, Keplinger's Mourvèdre-based wine, makes its first appearance in this range since 2019. Dark fruit, tobacco and dried herbs fill out the layers. This deep, potent red is seriously impressive. Incisive earthy undertones frame the finish.
