(from organically farmed vines): Bright ruby-red. Reticent nose suggests freshly cut hay, caramel and licorice. Very ripe and concentrated but youthfully tight, with dark fruit flavors accented by mint, bitter chocolate and licorice. Best today on the palate-staining if rather oaky finish. This very ripe but youthfully unforthcoming wine will need extended aging. Dominique Laurent noted that this very cold site is his "marker of a great year: When it's great, it's a great vintage." But he likes this wine a bit more than I do today. Incidentally, this wine is labeled 19BIO for markets other than the U.S., which does not allow a biodesignation to appear on wine labels.
