Score 94/100 · Drink 2021-2030, Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate, Dec 2019
The wine they consider more classical in the range is the 2016 La Viña de Amalio, a single-vineyard Tempranillo from a plot planted in 1964 on sandy soils that deliver wines with energy and subtleness. It fermented in small tanks and matured in French oak barrels for 18 months. This is a lot less oaky than previous years, and it has the rustic character of Ribera del Duero, the concentration and power of the old vines and the structure to develop nicely over time. It has tannins that should resolve with some more time in bottle. One of the finest examples of this bottle that I can remember. 4,030 bottles were filled in August 2018.
