Tasting notes
Showing spicy and savory characteristics, the 2009 Barolo Vigna Santo Stefano Perno is a highly individualistic wine. Those pretty embellishments of cinnamon, cardamom and white pepper make for an excellent contrast to the wine's softer fruity and floral side. Barolo Vigna Santo Stefano Perno performs magically in the mouth with smooth tannins and extra intensity on the finish. Its persistence is impressive and meaningful.

Pale ruby. Utterly classic – this would be a wonderful illustration of Barolo. Tarry edge after great intensity of rose flavours. Hint of orange peel. Completely transparent. (JR)
The typical signatures of site struggle to emerge in the 2009 Barolo Santo Stefano di Perno, a wine with limited depth, complexity and nuance.
Medium red. Musky cherry and redcurrant aromas are complicated by truffley underbrush and a high note of exotic flowers. Suave and complex, showing more energy and mineral lift than the 2009 Villero. Finishes with big, building tannins that turn a bit dry in the glass. This will need at least a couple years to harmonize.
