Tasting notes
The NV Sercial 10 Years Old has 58 grams of sugar and 7.96 grams of acidity. It is the palest of all the Henriques & Henriques wines I tasted this time, displaying a bright amber color, and it's also the one with more focus, precision and clarity. It feels dry-ish, with high acidity and notes of nuts and spices and some citrus hints, reminiscent of a Sherry. The bottle doesn't have a bottling date, so you don't know what you're getting. I love the purity here. This was a big surprise and the highlight of the range I tasted.

Savoury, toasted-rye nose. Seems drier than most. Crisp as a slice of bacon. Firm, dense. Earthbound. (TC)
100% Sercial grown on mixed volcanic soils and hand-harvested mid to late September. Fermented with some whole-clusters with skin maceration in lagares with native yeasts. Matured in canteiro; aged in balseiro (large cask) and pipas (pipes) for a minimum of 10 years. Winemaker: Humberto Jardím. Vegan. TA 5.8 g/l, pH 3.52, RS 55.1 g/l. Pale tawny. Edgy, sour marmalade with real refreshment and raciness. Clean as a whistle, and so fresh! (JR)
Lustrous, layered orange/amber colour. Lightly cheesy nose. You're really aware of some age on this wine, which has real integrity and salty savour. It's a little firmer and fleshier than the H M Borges version and has real follow-through. Flavours of soaked cut peel. You could drink this before or with a meal. This with a beef tea or bouillon would be magical. Guaranteed to cure any invalid, surely? Super-clean, pure and revitalising. Though much lighter and drier than any Bual or Malmsey. (JR)
