Tasting notes
Joseph Phelps has been on a hot streak since the 1991 vintage, having turned in outstanding efforts in 1992, even more exhilarating 1993s, and blockbuster 1994s. Joseph Phelps has made an incredible Trockenbeerenauslese/Eiswein. The 1994 Eisrebe is made from the Scheurebe grape. Although this varietal does not possess the glamour and sex appeal of Riesling, as so many of Germany's Pfaltz producers have proven time after time, it is capable of producing marvelous wines. Phelps' Eisrebe possesses 7% alcohol, 30% residual sugar, and enough fruit and unctuosity to impress even the most insatiable nectar lover. Unfortunately, only 80 half-bottle (375 ml) cases were produced. If you are able to latch onto any, this stunning wine should be drunk over the next decade. Tel. (707) 963-2745; Fax (707) 963-4831
