Tasting notes
Strikingly intense citrus oil aroma. Lemon, honey, kumquat and nut oil flavors. The citricity and underlying bitter notes are nicely integrated and the alcohol restrained by virtue of judicious residual sugar. This displays a really juicy persistence (where the corresponding Halenberg Spatlese Halbtrocken-a wine Schonleber says he'll release late-came off as relatively diffuse and awkwardly bittersweet). 1 star.

The aromatically demure 2003 Riesling Spatlese Monziger Fruhlingsplatzchen’s softly-textured attack as well as mid-palate engage the taster with creamed slate and spice flavors that give way to some dryness in the finish. Drink it over the next 4 years. Importer: Chapin Cellars, imported by Billington Imports, Springfield, VA; tel. (703) 455-4700
Broad but indistinct nose with considerable sweetness and very ripe grapefruit flavours. Some spine of concentration on the palate. This is still quite youthful, and there is also still some sulphur. A little bitter on the finish. (JR)
