Rosenblum Cellars is somewhat under the radar for top-class Petite Sirah, but they do a very fine job with it. The dense purple-colored 2003 Petite Sirah Pickett Road Vineyard (from a well-known viticultural area tucked in the northeastern corridor southeast of Calistoga) offers up a big, sweet perfume of spring flowers intermixed with blackberries, tar, and loamy soil scents. Medium-bodied with high tannin as well as a slightly austere, lean finish, it possesses the requisite concentration, texture, and overall extract to balance the tannin. Give it 2-3 years of cellaring and drink it over the following 12-15. Tel. (510) 865-7007
