The 2023 Bin 150 Marananga Shiraz is unapologetically from Marananga, in Barossa Valley. It is red-fruited and structural, with layers of spices and earthy notes. The tannins are soft, profuse and also firm in their shaping, and it all serves to cup the fruit. The contrast of the style of this cuvée with the season that birthed it works so well in this glass, better than the Bin 28 from the same vintage. This is a magnificent wine. Matured for 17 months in a combination of one-year-old and seasoned French and American oak. 14.5% alcohol, sealed under natural cork.

100% Shiraz from the Marananga subregion of the Barossa Valley. Extremely wet spring and generally cool growing season with high disease pressure, until warmer, drier conditions returned in the summer. ‘Ultimately, the yields in Marananga not only met but exceeded expectations, thanks to the favourable late-season weather, marking the 2023 vintage as one characterised by both challenge and triumph.’ Aged for 17 months in French oak (29% one year old, 25% seasoned) and American oak (26% two years old, 20% one year old) hogsheads. TA 6.9 g/l, pH 3.69. Very dense blackish purple. Very perfumed! Liquorice. Very smooth and polished. Dry end but a little porty in a nice way. Lovely, polished, sweet and fresh. Salty and sweet but not too dense. (JR)
The 2023 Shiraz Bin 150 is an elegant, impressive expression, delivering velvety aromas of blackberry and licorice well matched to older French and American oak maturation. This is slick and pure, with quite juicy acidity, in a streamlined style that retains good tension. The 2023 is still in its shell and needs time to build flavor and texture.
