From a vineyard that is essentially the front yard of Pott’s St. Helena home, the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Turf War Bisagno Vineyard comes from Aiken red gold clay loam soils, an important terroir component of a couple of other famous wines, particularly Colgin’s Tychson Hill. This spectacular wine possesses copious amounts of blackberry, blueberry, and dark cherry fruit, incense, graphite and a touch of oak. With a full-bodied, voluptuously textured, stunning finish, this prodigious, world-class Cabernet Sauvignon can be drunk now and over the next 12-15 years.

(from 15-year-old vines planted above Tychson Hill, on the western hillside north of St. Helena; the first commercial release for this bottling): Deep medium ruby-red. Cassis, roasted meat, graphite and a balsamic cedary quality on the nose. Densely packed and sweet; at once pure and a little wild, with currant and licorice flavors dominating. Finishes with big but supple tannins and a vibrant suggestion of dark cherry. Lovely potential here.

The colorfully-named 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Turf War emerges from a parcel that sits adjacent to Tychson Hill. Raspberry jam, wild flowers, new leather and spices all burst from the glass. The 2012 is rich , layered and beautifully expressive in the glass. Red-toned fruits, floral notes, mint and spices inform the perfumed, long finish. This is going to be a fascinating wine to follow as it develops in barrel and bottle.
