The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate, a blend of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot, is one of my favorite wines from this area of Napa Valley. It offers lots of red, blue and black fruits intermixed with a floral component as well as sweet tannin. Combining the gorgeous ripeness and abundant fruit of Napa Cabernet with a Bordeaux-like tannic structure, this young 2009 is still an infant, but it can be enjoyed now, although another 4-6 years of bottle age will improve it even more. It is capable of lasting two more decades. Despite the high quality wines emerging from Juslyn, this estate remains under most consumers’ radar. Proprietors Carolyn and Perry Butler produce mostly estate-bottled wines from their vineyard holdings. The recently released 2009s are both sensational wines. Both 2011s, which are still in barrel, are lighter-styled wines. The 2012s ratchet up things considerably as they do at most wineries when comparing them to the 2011s. Tel. (707) 265-1804

Juicy dark cherries, plums, mocha, cinnamon and grilled herbs literally jump from the glass in the 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon, a wine that stands out for its balance and total harmony. There is more than enough fruit to stand up to the tannins. Sweet floral notes reappear to give the finish an added element of lift that is highly appealing. The 2009 is 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot.
