Score 87-90/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, May 2011
Moderately saturated medium red. Plum syrup, tobacco and minerals on the slightly high-toned nose. Juicy and intense, showing more definition than the 2008 version. Plenty of red fruits but still a bit light in the middle. The big, broad tannins dust the teeth. This is 13.9% alcohol, compared to 13.5% for the 2008. Wise Acre is the personal project of Kirk Grace, who is also responsible for the vineyard work at his family's Grace Family Vineyards and is vineyard manager at Stag's Leap Wine Cellars.
