Tasting notes
(Randy Dunn is the partner here) Bright ruby-red. Dark aromas of cassis, tar, smoked meat and nutty oak. Juicy and intensely flavored, with noteworthy energy to the primary flavors of cassis and plum. Not yet complex but has the strength of fruit to support its very firm tannins and powerful structure. Finishes with excellent length and aromatic lift. Very Dunn in style: winemakers may well work with fruit from disparate regions, but they generally add their own DNA to the equation.

Made for Long Shadows by Randy Dunn of California fame. Dunn’s tight, dense Napa Cabs from Howell Mountain need 10 years in bottle, yet this wine is accessible now. Attractive earth, tobacco-leaf aromas, deep black fruit and cassis on the palate, supple tannins and refreshing acidity on a medium-full frame. Fine balance. (LM)
The 2004 Feather Cabernet Sauvignon is made by Randy Dunn of Napa Valley fame. It is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon selected from five vineyards sources and aged for 23 months in French oak. This opaque purple wine delivers classic Cabernet aromas of toast, lead pencil, black currant and blackberry. It has excellent flavors and balance but is just slightly lacking in breadth and length. Nevertheless, it is an outstanding effort. Long Shadows is a winery begun by Alan Shoup, the long-time CEO of Stimson Lane and Chateau Ste.-Michelle. It is a consortium of seven different brands (labels), each with its own star winemaker who has a 25% share in the brand. The concept is that each “?is dedicated to producing a single Columbia Valley wine representing a ‘best of type’ that reflects the winemaker’s signature style.” Tel.
