Tasting notes
Flirting with perfection, the 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard The O.G. offers darker black cherries, smoked currants, leather, graphite, and Asian spices. This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon (100% new oak) is full-bodied on the palate and has that slightly more streamlined, elegant style from To Kalon in 2023. It's balanced, with remarkably polished tannins, integrated acidity, and a great finish. It's another truly great 2023 that will evolve for well over two decades. Drink 2027-2052.

The 2023 Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard The OG is another powerhouse Cabernet in this range from proprietor Mark Carter and winemaker Russell Bevan. Inky and explosive to the core, the 2023 stains the palate with copious blackberry jam, lavender, bittersweet chocolate and new oak. The huge mid-palate and equally dramatic finish lend this head-turner tons of allure. Carter fans will adore this.
Moving to the To Kalon releases, the 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard The F.RED is a tiny production (105 cases) release based on 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from two blocks (D2 and E2) raised in new barrels. Killer aromatics of black and blue fruits, leafy herbs, leather, camphor, and exotic spices all give way to a full-bodied Cabernet that's flawlessly balanced, has beautifully integrated oak, ripe, velvety tannins, and a great, great finish. This complex, layered, powerful yet elegant beauty is not to be missed.
Showing a lighter, brighter fruit element, Carter's 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon The OG offers up scents of raspberries and stone fruit, plus hints of mint and dried spices. It's full-bodied, creamy and supple, displaying ample intensity, while the tannins are so well integrated that they're not perceptibly drying at all, lingering elegantly on the finish.
