Tasting notes
Accendo's 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon includes 6% Cabernet Franc, sourced from a vineyard on Diamond Mountain. The balance comes from Vine Hill Ranch, M-Bar Ranch and Sleeping Lady vineyards, with a component from Ecotone in the mix as well. Bold raspberry and cherry fruit appears on the nose, while the medium- to full-bodied palate reveals ample structure and a rich, velvety texture. Hints of vanilla, cedar and bay leaf mingle with red berries on the lingering, elegant finish.

Coming from Vine Hill, Sleeping Lady, and M Bar vineyards, the 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon reveals gorgeous aromas of pure currants, smoked tobacco, cedar pencil, graphite, and licorice. Full-bodied and concentrated, it has remarkable depth, ripe tannins, and a lengthy finish. This is one of the longer-lived wines of the vintage and will keep for two decades. Based on 92% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8% Cabernet Franc, with 886 cases produced.
The 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon is fabulous and clearly one of the wines of this very challenging year. Succulent dark red fruit, espresso, mocha, licorice and rose petal all meld together. More than anything, though, I am so impressed with the wine's balance. There's a bit of edginess in the tannin, but bottle age should help. The 2022 was bottled a little more than a month before this tasting, so that may explain some of its overall feel. As always, the Accendo Cabernet is a blend from several sites across the valley. That approach was clearly beneficial in 2022, a year in which many sites were severely challenged.
