Tasting notes
The 2020 Reserve Red, with 13% alcohol and made entirely from biodynamic Syrah grapes, exhibits a mineral edge with dusty spices, potpourri, hints of tart raspberries and roses with nuances of baked clay and earth. It initially presents with tight tannic grip, indicating its aging potential. From decomposed granite soils, the Syrah underwent 100% whole-bunch fermentation and was aged in French oak for 18 months. Given time in the bottle and a proper food pairing, it promises to reveal its full potential. Your patience will be rewarded. Some 3,390 bottles were produced.

The 2020 Syrah Reserve is the first year using 100% whole bunches from some parcels, around 60% overall, plus crushed and de-stemmed bunches. It undergoes two pump-overs daily; the whole bunch component matured in 400-liter barrels and the rest in 225-liter barrels. The disarming bouquet offers slightly plusher black fruit compared to the 2021 Syrah, with hints of blueberry, crushed violets and subtle savory notes. The palate is medium-bodied with an edgy opening, the 60% new oak adding a smooth sheen to this Syrah, vivacious red fruit towards the finish. Maybe I'd like a little less new oak? But it will mature with style.
