Score 87/100 · Drink 1996, Robert Parker, Jun 1995
Closed aromatically like the 1993 Pinot Noir, the 1993 Reserve Pinot Noir reveals a more evolved garnet color. The wine's high acidity surprised me, but it is accompanied by some attractive, sweet, gamey, smoky, berry fruit, medium body, and a structured, long finish. This restrained wine requires 6-12 more months of aging to fully open. Ponzi's 1993s are several notches below the exquisite Pinot Noirs made here in 1992, 1991, 1990, 1989, and 1988, as well as what look to be sensational 1994s. They are very good examples of Ponzi Pinots, although slightly more advanced in their evolutions. Tel. (503) 628-1227
