Score 89/100 · Drink 2013-2019, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Apr 2012

The 2009 Gevrey-Chambertin is supple yet delicate and very much in the style of the vintage. Dark cherries, licorice and spices wrap around the fleshy finish. I wouldn't wait forever, in fact this is one 2009 that will probably never be more delicious than it is today.

The 2009 Gevrey-Chambertin is a new bottling that essentially replaces the previous Tradition and Place des Lois, which Burguet felt were too many separate village-level wines. There is now only one Gevrey-Chambertin villages aside from the flagship Mes Favorites. The 2009 Gevrey-Chambertin impresses for its radiant fruit and fleshy, generous texture. The wine shows tons of village character and notable intensity all the way through to the finish, where hints of crushed flowers, mint and licorice add the final layers of complexity. The lieu-dits in the straight Gevrey are Justice, Billiards and Regnards.
