Tasting notes
The 2000 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is another powerful wine from Poggio Antico. It opens with a dark, brooding nose followed by an intense core of ripe fruit along with tobacco and toasted oak nuances, flowing onto the palate with much concentration, length and overall balance. Made from the estate’s oldest vines, it spends 12 months in new tonneaux and a further 30 months in Slavonian oak cask. It will require a few years to fully absorb the new oak. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2020. Importer: Empson, USA, Alexandria, VA; tel. (703) 684-0900.
