Tasting notes
Even richer, with currants, chocolate, earth and black licorice all soaring from the glass, the 2010 Syrah Purisima Mountain Vineyard is slightly brooding and backwards, with full-bodied richness and big texture. Give it another year and enjoy it through 2019. Drink 2014-2019. This was a great tasting with Steve Beckmen and assistant winemaker Michael Sigouin. These wines never lack for fruit or texture, yet show beautiful poise and length, especially in these cooler vintages. The side-by-side comparison between a number of 2010s and 2011s was incredibly educational, and, across the board, the 2010s were bigger, richer wines while the 2011s showed better purity, focus and detail. Both vintages are strong. Tel. (805) 688-8664; www.beckmenvineyards.com

The 2010 Syrah Purisima Mountain Vineyard is dark, juicy and wonderfully expressive. Blackberries, cloves, menthol, tar and licorice are all woven together in a resonant wine loaded with character. This fruit-forward, medium to full-bodied Syrah is firing on all cylinders.
