Score 90/100 · Drink 2025-2028, Matthew Luczy, Wine Advocate, Sep 2024

A blend of 74% Syrah and 26% Grenache, the 2021 Le Devoir hails from Hawk's Hill, Fulldraw and Moonsprings Vineyards and was aged in 60% new French oak for 20 months. As with other Torrin wines in this lineup, the nose is unavoidably hot, behind which one can find grilled plum, balsamic and sage aromas. The palate is the ripest of the bunch in this roster, which goes a long way in balancing the finish's otherwise tight, angular, grippy and fume-tinged nature. While I hope some cohesion can come from at least a few years in the cellar, the overt perception of alcohol causes me to doubt its ultimate potential for balance.

The 2021 LeDevoir is understated in the glass, as dusty violet and lavender tones accentuate mint-laced black currants. This is sleek and racy in style, with cooling acidity. Crisp wild berry fruits slowly saturate the palate, adding tension toward the close. It finishes with a mass of violet and lavender florals, just softly tannic, leaving a tinge of baking spice and cocoa.
