Score 94/100 · Jeb Dunnuck, Dec 2011
The 2009 Lewis Cellars Alec's Blend, a superb blend of 80% Syrah, 17% Merlot, and 3% Cabernet Sauvignon, shows a smoky, black fruited profile with loads of underlying tobacco, pepper, coffee, and toasty oak on the nose. While lacking the mid-palate depth of the strait Syrah, this full-bodied, beautifully concentrated, and focused red has a firm, structured feel, good acidity, and serious length on the finish. Actually the least approachable of the lot, this needs 2-3 years in the cellar to fully integrate and flesh out, and should have upwards of 12-15 years of longevity.
