Tasting notes
Bright, saturated ruby-red. Higher-pitched aromas of sweet currant, plum, tobacco, chocolate and espresso, with a note of toasty oak; showed black cherry and minerals with aeration. Lush and pliant, yet a bit dominated today by its spine; the flavors of plum, licorice, spice and graphite are sweetened by oak. Initially, the wine's acids and oak tannins clashed, but this cabernet grew more harmonious with aeration. Ultimately a bit longer and finer than the basic 2002 cabernet bottling, but needs a few years of cellaring. May merit an outstanding rating with bottle aging.

The 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Monitor Ledge Vineyard possesses an impressive deep ruby/purple color as well as a tight, but noble nose of white flowers and black currants, followed by chalky tannin and firm structure. It should age well for a decade. Tel. (707) 963-7108
