Tasting notes
The 2006 Pinot Noir Freedom Hill is sourced from the Coast Range south of Salem. It is a site more dominated by earth notes and minerality. It is the tightest of these Pinot Noirs and will need several years to be approachable, an unusual trait in the 2006 vintage. This masculine effort has plenty of material but purchasers will need to be patient. Ken Wright Cellars remains a benchmark for Oregon Pinot Noir. Wright’s portfolio of 2006s is outstanding across the board. As has become customary, Ken Wright has pulled off a tour de force in farming and winemaking. Tel. Brilliant red. Deep cherry and dark berry aromas are energized by dusty minerals and fresh rose. Tangy and focused, with lively cherry skin and blackcurrant flavors. For all its intensity this is light-bodied and fresh. Finishes with striking clarity and persistence, leaving a strong note of brown spices behind.
