Score 87/100 · Drink 2016-2021, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Jan 2017

Tasted at the Domaine Engel tasting in London, the 1988 Grands Echézeaux Grand Cru has a slightly funky nose, perhaps a little disjointed, especially when compared to the ethereal 1983 Clos Vougeot. The palate is structured, linear, quite earthy in style and now showing just a little dryness towards the slightly austere finish. It just feels a little unsettled and there might be better examples out there. This felt a little ragged, especially juxtaposed against the 1990. Tasted October 2016.
