Tasting notes
(30% new French oak) Deep bright-hued ruby. Pungent red berry liqueur, cherry pie, incense and star anise aromas are sharpened by a suggestion of white pepper and a smoky mineral quality. Intense raspberry and cherry flavors show outstanding depth and clarity and slowly gain sweetness while picking up a sexy floral pastille nuance. Impressively pure and delineated wine. Finishes extremely long, with appealing sweetness and smooth, harmonious tannins.

I think the finest vintage to date, the 2015 The Maven is all Grenache (there’s a small amount of fruit from James Berry Vineyard) and offers a sensational perfume of flowers, white pepper, cedary spice, and a big core of blueberry and cherry fruit. Seamless, elegant, medium to full-bodied, and beautifully balanced, it’s enjoyable today but will have two decades of overall longevity. Hats off to winemaker Scott Hawley for this awesome wine!
