Tasting notes
Deep, bright-rimmed garnet. A complex and highly perfumed bouquet evokes oak-spiced cherry, coconut, candied flowers and baking spices, plus hints of tobacco and cola in the background. Smooth and fleshy on the palate, offering appealingly sweet cherry-vanilla, mocha, licorice and spicecake flavors that show impressive depth as well as energy. Finishes very long and smooth, with a touch of smokiness and repeating cherry and floral notes. This library release is bottled in magnums and it has shaped up to be pretty much where I expected it to be when I first tried it back in 2015 – actually, even better. In this format I think that it has a long life ahead of it, and it would be a great wine for an anniversary event, especially at the price.

Ruby-red. Fresh cherry, vanilla, coconut and spicecake on the assertively perfumed nose. Juicy and focused on the palate, offering a vibrant, seductively sweet red berry liqueur flavor plus suggestions of candied flowers, vanilla and smoky minerals. Closes spicy, supple and very long, with smooth tannins building slowly and folding into the wine's energetic red fruit. This sexy, still-youthful Rioja, which was aged for two years in a combination of new and used French and American oak, should age slowly and gracefully.
